Abstract: In chapter I we noted that many people have difficulty solving: problems because they fail to use efficient method. Our goal in this chapter is to provide a model that can be used to improve problem solving and decision making. The model integrates many of the contemporary ideas and research findings related to problem solving into an easily understood framework. The components of the model are represented the by the acronym IDEAL. Each letter in IDEAL stands for an aspect of thinking that is important for problem solving.
