Developing a productivity measurement system for the public service

Abstract

Productivity has become the item in the agenda of most managers, both in the public and private sectors. However, the for productivity in both the sectors is not new. The government has introduced various programmes to improve productivity as early as 1948. These programmes were designed to bring about improvements in attitudes and values; systems and procedures; provision of services to the public; controls and cost savings; and the management of information technology. Despite all these efforts, there was no effort to measure productivity till the Productivity.
