Abstract: The New Population Policy was officially launched on March 29, 1984 when the Prime Minister presented the motion on the Mid- term Review of the Fourth Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat. According to this policy, Malaysia should achieve an population of 70 million people around the year 2100, that is, Meanwhile, an Ad-Hoc Committee on Population Issues, set up in January 1983, examined various implications of the policy and came up with a number of recommendations which would serve as guidelines for its implementation. These recommendations were approved by the Cabinet on August 1, 1984.
