Abstract: Many people have attempted to distinguish between the terms ethics and morals. However, according to Professor William A. Evans, the distinction has never been entirely satisfactory. Both describe rules of conduct and both are concerned with differentiating between right and wrong. "Perhaps we sometimes do intend to convey another meaning if we say that an action is immoral rather than unethical; perhaps the former description connotes some contravention of religious law, some imperative that never changes, while the latter merely indicates a departure from traditional or customary behaviour. But the difference can only be subjective, since the two words, the one Latin (from moralis, the adjective of mos - custom - and mores, morals) and the other Greek (from ethikos, the adjective of ethos - moral behaviour), are linguistically interdependent and historically synonymous".
