| Abstract: | I am very pleased to be able to address you on the topic-what the major forces that will shape the 1980's are. Because this is not a question or idea which I have fully developed but is one which my current research at the Rand is about, I am not only willing but eager to get responses and to learn from as wide an audience as possible. So I will make my initial remarks short and thus leave ample time for discussion. I have been working in Southeast Asia for many years, particularly in Indonesia, because I was trying to understand the problems of political and economic development of the developing countries-countries that had just been emancipated from colonialism. |
