Abstract: | The question of energy demand has been frequently posed in response to economic growth. Malaysia's upward economic trend has persisted for more than half a decade and its government is keen to have this maintained for a few more decades as part of the Vision 2020 plan. It is for this reason that there is a consciousness about Malaysia's energy supply and its sources. Independent power producers have been brought onstream to produce some 30-40 percent of the country's electricity needs while massive hydroelectric schemes such as the controversial Bakun Dam project are given serious consideration. |
