Abstract: | Physical Education is universally recognized as an integral part of education so far as its aims and objectives are concerned. Through a well- planned, well-organized, and well-conducted Physical Education program, a child develops physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally to live a successful life in our modern society. A study of history reveals that man has recognized the importance of Physical Education in the training of youth since ancient times. In ancient Athens, for example, the important studies of the Athenians were Physical Education, grammar, and music. The Athenian Physical Education program had to be perfectly balances with its own areas and completely harmonized with other phases of education. Among the important qualities expected to be developed in Athenians were bodily beauty and perfection, strength, speed, endurance, moral character, self-discipline, self-determination, courage, humility, and sports-manship. |
