Abstract: Compared with other hill stations in the region, Kedah Peak presents a unique case of retarded growth. This paper first describes the evolution of Kedah Peak as a hill station within the framework of an ideal-typical model of resort development. Its departure from this model is attributed to a number of physical and socio-economic constraints such as historical circumstances, relief characteristics, locational competition, social values and the lack of effective promotion. A narrative assessment of existing demand is then attempted and its implications discussed.
