A preliminary screeening on pesticides residues distribution in tropical paddy field area, Mukim 5, Seberang Perai Utara, Malaysia

Abstract

The increasing use of pesticides for agricultural production especially rice paddies is causing water pollution problems in surrounding water bodies. It may affect the quality of environmental resources such as groundwater and surface water. The objective of this study was to investigate the distribution of pesticides residues in water samples from the water body adjacent to the paddy field in Mukim 5, Seberang Prai Utara. A total of 10 water samples were taken from 10 different sampling points, extracted by solid phase extraction method (SPE) and subsequently, analyzed by Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The study showed that methoprene, triflumizole, difenoconazole, carbofuran, pyridaben, DBP, terbucarb and aldicard were detected in the selected sampling points.
