Abstract: BIMP-EAGA, which stands for Brunei - Indonesia - Malaysia - Philippines East Asean Growth Area was formed in March 1994, to seek multilateral participation from the public and private sector to build transborder economic cooperation between the respective countries. In short, BIMP - EAGA aims to be a location of choice for highly competitive resource-based manaufacturing including agro-industries and tourism activities. Originally conceived as a growth triangle to spur development in depressed Mindanao (Southern Philippines), Kalimantan Borneo (Indonesia) and Sabah (Malaysia), it has since been expanded into a polygon comprising 13 focus areas -namely Brunei Darussalam, North, South, Central and Southeast Sulawesi, East and West Kalimantan, Maluku in Indonesia, Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan in Malaysia and Mindanao and Palawan in the Philippines.
