Identifying the relationship between verbal aggression, children perception and aggressiveness among military college students in Malaysia

Abstract

Prior research on the effects of children maltreatment has focused primarily on the relationship between physical aggression and its impact on delinquent behavior. The number of reported cases for emotional or psychological abuse may not be seen as significant like other types of abuse since emotional or psychological abuse did not shows any marks compared to physical abuse which can be seen through the bruises, broken bone or any wound as a clues that the child is suffering. Emotional or psychological abuse is a sustained pattern of verbal aggression, and as there is little visible evidence of psychological or emotional suffering, children who experience verbal aggression may never be recognized as victims. Verbal aggression was independent and it was associated with children's psychosocial problem. Psychological aggression is more detrimental to children compared to physical aggression. The present study aim to identify verbal aggression by military college instructor and examines the relationship between verbal aggressions and student perception and aggressive behavior. The result shows various classifications on the types of verbal aggression made by the military college instructor. The findings suggest that the classification of verbal aggression focused on the different aspects of a child's existence and needs, as well as on the different motivations and psychological states of the instructor with respect to the child. Although there are different classifications of verbal aggression, the concept of verbal aggression resembles one another.
