Abstract: | On December 8, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, reducing to nil the capacity of the United States to retaliate in defense of her interests or even of her allies. With swift lightning attacks, the Japanese bombed Manila and other American installations in the Philippines. The Americans thus incapacitated, the stage was ready for the realization of Japan's objectives in the Philippines: the annihilation of American forces concentrated in the country and the harnessing of the country's resources and manpower to the Japanese war machine. |
