Abstract: | We are gathered here as history teachers, so I intend to deal with my subject primarily from the point of view of our profession. There will not, therefore, be any attempt to answer questions like "What is history?" or "How does one explain history?" or "What has history to teach us?". I will not try to deal with the question of why we study history or why we must study history. Instead, I shall speak briefly on why we teach history and go on from there to consider how we can best go about doing this |
