| Abstract: | The history of men is made up of their aspirations for Freedom and of their struggles to conquer it. Poets, be it Homer or Byron, have not ceased crying over the misery of captives and exalting the heroism of fighters for Freedom. It is in the name of Freedom that Barbarians as well as Christians fought against the Roman Empire. Still it is in the name of freedom that the armies of the Revolution which then became these of Napoleon, had first liberated our Father-land, pushing back the invaders, and then tried to conquer Europe. |
