Abstract: For companies to be able to select effective strategies, they must establish a match between certain attributes of their planning process and the skills and behavior of their planners. In this paper, several types of planners are described. The skills and behavior of the so-called "technician" are likely to result in successful performance when planning has to deal with a simple and static environment. When the environmental conditions are complex and change fast, organizations are better off with the so-called "integrator" type of planner.
