| Abstract: | SIFE UKM: HOLD MY HAND is a project developed and organized by SIFE-UKM towards creating a sustainable avenue for skill building and revenue generation for orphans and orphanages around Bandar Baru Bangi. Upon close examination of the existing circumstances of several orphanages around UKM area, we arrived at a consensus that the best way to assist is to provide skill building for the children to provide skills which the children will be equipped with upon leaving the homes and schools, enter the working world. Additionally, the project will also create an avenue for the orphanages to generate additional income that will enable them with a chance for self-sustainability through entrepreneurial activities. As a new SIFE team, we believe that in choosing projects from the many potential projects, we must focus on projects that we really believe in, have passion for, and also projects that we can be fully committed to. Hence, we decided to start out by lending our hands to the orphans at Darul Izzah Home, Bandar Baru Bangi. Through the research on the community around UKM, we, SIFE UKM, found that an entrepreneurial program will benefit the children at Darul Izzah Home for the Orphans and also the Orphanage itself. The children benefit from a simple yet effective vocational training in culinary arts, while the Orphanage embarks on a new venture that may increase self-sustainability and reduce its reliance on philanthropic giving. Realizing that such a venture requires active involvement, participation, and continuous monitoring from all its members. SIFE UKM chose to run the program with an orphanage most closely located to the University's campus. We at SIFE UKM feels strongly our engagement with the orphans in such activity builds a degree of hope for a better future for these orphans, the children of Darul Izzah Home for the Orphans, enables the home to be part of entrepreneurship activities while allowing SIFE UKM to make a difference to the lives of those who are less fortunate. "Hold My Hand" Project is a project that would inspire all orphanages in the country on an avenue for skill development and income generation. This will allow the children to build skill in culinary that may benefit them should they choose to get involved in the program, as well as earn some pocket money from their own effort. Furthermore the project should help increase financial stability for the orphanages. |
