Abstract: From 1983 Mexico began a period of deep structural changes aimed at achieving permanent macroeconomic stability and an efficient role international trade flows. This process of economic adjustment and trade liberalisation has made possible the achievement of greater international competitiveness and an important increase in foreign trade activities. I would like to point out, as an example, that non-oil exports rose from US$5 billion dollars in 1982 to almost US$17 billion in 1990.
