Abstract: | Most of Tofu industries in Warung Muncang area are not provided with waste water treatment. It could pollute surface and shallow ground water and reduce life quality of the people in the area. Tropical Water Index (TWI) was applied to assess water supply and sanitation in the area that is classified as urban poor area. Using TWI five components are assessed, these are water quality, the availability of water source and pollution, human resources development, water usage, and sanitation or human excreta handling. The fact is that 83% of them can get water in less than 30 minutes. Most of the people have private dug-wells and 80% of them more than 15 meter depth. Moreover, the ownership of private bath and toilet is 80% and 57% respectively. Unfortunately the gray water flow to the nearby drainage networks then it mixes with waste water from tofu industry before it reaches a river. Septic tanks are privately built in the backyard serve 37% of the people. The water usage is around 60-100 liter per day per person and piped water from deep ground water serves 54% of the people. Additionally, 92% of the solid waste is collected to a transfer depot. It is concluded that people in the study area realize on how to have healthy life. But the infrastructure on sanitation does not support the reality of healthy life. |
