Notes: | The work of which we present an outline to the public today is not, strictly speaking, by Ibn IIanbal himself ("), but indeed by his immediate disciple, Abu Bakr Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Marwüzt ( "), as indicated on p. 2 of the edition (Cairo, 1340) which has been published. In truth, the cover - no doubt to disappoint the reader - prints the name of Ibn Hanbal alone and in large characters (4). But it is according to” or according to (an) this famous character. In principle, this collection of sayings and anecdotes should only be about mara', that is to say refined religious scruples (below § III). But that is not the only thing in this book and, moreover, not everything goes back to Ibn Hanbal alone (who is always referred to here as Abu 'Abd Allah). It contains all your kinds of sayings and anecdotes, reported or not. through the channel of Ibn Hanbal, and which go back to very different characters.. |
