As such, the process, characteristics, causes and consequences of migration have significant short and long term repercussions on the regional and national development of an economy. This is because migration is both and equilibrating and disequilibrating force,depending on the socio-economic conditions of an economy. How migration is moulded and made susceptible to planning is thus crucial.
