Power Over Ethernet (PoE) adapter

Abstract

The Internet is becoming as essential tool for communication and entertainment such as are television and the telephone. An ever-growing variety of power devices (PDs) such as wireless routes, web cameras, and others are finding more and more applications in facilitating and extending the usefulness of the Internet. All of these devices require a power source to run them and, although the obvious source of this power is the mains, this choice is unattractive because of the additional cables that need to be introduced. A far better solution is to use the Ethernet cable that transfers data to also carry power from the Ethernet hub to the PD, thus eliminating extra cables. This project aims to design a compact, portable, low cost and reliable power over Ethernet (PoE) DC adapter that capable producing stable DC source from +5 VDC to +12 VCD to any electrical devices that required DC supply. The devices can be classified into two categories, PoE device and non PoE device. The designed PoE should be able to supply for both type of devices. This paper explains about the simulation and hardware development for PoE adapter and the output results are also discussed.
