Abstract: Natural rubber (NR) had depolymorized into liquid natural rubber (LNR) which consists of lower molecular weight and shorter polymeric chains. Hydrogenated LNR (HLNR) was synthesized through the thermal decomposition of p-toluenesulfonyl hydrazide (TSH). The structures of LNR and HLNR were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR). The percentage of hydrogenation was calculated from NMR spectrum. By manipulating the reaction parameters such as sources of TSH concentration, diimide, solvent and reaction time, the optimum percentage of hydrogenation (>90%) was obtained. The optimum condition was 3:2 weight ratio of TSH to LNR in a-xylene at 130ce in 6-hour reaction period.
