Abstract: | The e-CPDelt: model 2020 sets out to develop a partnership model for online continuing professional development for English language teaching. This project is aligned with the key objectives of Vision 2020 that seeks to implement learner-centered approaches to e-learning within all schools by the year 2020, but importantly explores an approach that involves a partnership between a university(UKM), technology enriched schools (Smart schools) and industry (such as MDec, Telekom, Mimos and Edutrend). Smart schools have been chosen as these teachers have received some training already and the schools have received funding to improve their technology infrastructure. It is these teachers who are now facing the considerable challenges of implementing government policy without any ongoing support. The lessons learnt from working in partnership with the selected Smart school teachers to implement the proposed e-CPDelt: model 2020 will be used to inform policy and practice in schools in Malaysia and internationally. The benefits to UKM will not only be a well-researched model that will be widely applicable, but the model generates new students at postgraduate level. Model (CPDelt 2020) is based on the Improvement Quality Education for All (IQEA) action research framework which has been extensively used in the UK as a vehicle for school improvement (Hopkins et al., 1996). The online model proposed differs from the IQEA in two very important aspects. The sharing in the case of the IQEA was mostly face-to-face whereas in the present study the sharing between the teachers will be done online. Second, the goal of the proposed project extends beyond bringing changes in teaching and learning. It extends to giving teachers an opportunity. to work with ICT from the start so that they are aware of all the problems involved when they attempt to impart the skills to their students. The ultimate goal of this project is to bring together the school-based cadres to share emerging issues, themes and evaluation as well as form the basis for the SMART School Champion's Club" |
