Abstract: Nine flavonoids, apigenin (1), biochanin A (2), fisetin (3), jlavones (4), galangin (5), 3- hydroxyjlavone (6), myricetin (7), a-naphthojlavone (8) and J3-naphthojlavone (9), were investigated for their inhibitory effects on the biosynthesis of prostaglandin ??2 (PG??2) in human plasma in vitro. The anti-inflammatory effect was performed by measuring the PGE2 levels in plasma by using radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique. Among the nine jlavonoids, a-naphthojlavone (8) exhibited the highest inhibition of 63.3 %, followed by J3- naphthojlavone (9) and 3-hydroxyjlavone (6) with 60.2 % and 56.4 % inhibition respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest inhibitory effect was showed by jlavone (4) with only 11.4 % inhibition. The results indicate that a-naphthojlavone (8) and fJ-naphthojlavone (9) possess promising potent anti-inflammatory properties. Keywords: Anti-inflammatory; Prostaglandin ??2; Plasma; Flavonoids
