Abstract: Education is a critical dimension of public policy making to ensure human development. By increasing individual skills, abilities, and competencies, human capital accumulates. However, there must be thoughtful intention about the type of educational impact we wish to make when we set out to enhance our educational practices. We must consider how we influence the future through our current designs and investments in the educational environment of our students. High Impact Learning in Math and Science Education is a strategy to return the the highest possible yield on the investments made in educational environments and in our students. As educators, how will we reorient our thinking to ensure high impact learning; how will we best influence the shaping role of our educational institutions; and how will we know that our outcomes will contribute to gains for our students individually and for our society collectively? These questions are explored in this presentation along with the consideration of alternatives to current approaches that be indicated for the changing world and out students' placement in it.
