Abstract: Work alienation in a group of 120 security workers is analysed along the 5 dimensions of alienation as described by Seeman. The results present significant (at .01 level) evidence relating work performance measured in terms of the frequency of warnings and absenteeism with two dimensions of work alienation namely Powerlessness and Self-Estrangement. The results also support the possible application of an overall measure of work alienation as a useful tool in preliminary investigations of poor work performance when attitudinal causes are suspected.
