The paper discusses the basic concepts behind sustainable development [within which all industrialisation must occur] arising from the UN Conference on Environment & Development. It then explores what changes are required in Malaysia to pioneer this form of development, including improved value systems and a radically new code of ethics for all Malaysians. The author makes an overall assessment of the current state of implementation of codes of ethics among different Malaysian professionals and ends by recommending specific remedial measures, especially in order to achieve full sustainable development by the year 2020.en_US
