As the international market is becoming more and more competitive, efforts to improve productivity and quality become more important and widely recognised. This calls for intensification of efforts to develop productivity measures variables Good productivity measures, besides throwing light on productivity and its factors, also reveal important economic relationships between productivity and such variables as wages, prices, profits, and employment. The measurement process and its findings also illustrate the usefulness of productivity efforts. Productivity measure has been proven to be a very effective statistical integrating tool to coordinate and harmonise many statistics such as those on employment, hours worked, earnings, composition of labour, capital, materials, education, state of technology, etc.en_US
