Abstract: This paper examines the role and impact of Japanese direct investment in Malaysia in the context of the imperatives and constraints of the present international division of labour in the world economy. posits that Japanese economy involvement in developing countries such as Malaysia is premised upon a global division of labour in production relations which are endemically unequal between the core, industrial countries and the peripheral, developing countries.
