To increase the real wealth and hence the standard of living of a nation, improved industrial performance is essential. The production manager monitors performance data on all the activities for which he is responsible. Correct interpretation of the data, decision making based on the data, and proper implementation of the decision leads to a genuine increase in performance. It is the purpose of this paper to aid the manager in the correct interpretation of performance data. Only then can the manager realise his personal potential, and that of the manufacturing unit he controls.en_US
