This morning, Dr. Noordin Sopiee presented a general perspective on economic development in Malaysia towards the year 2000. This afternoon, I hope to direct your attention to an increasingly important sector of our economy, that is, the manufacturing sector. From the title of this seminar, we are here to focus our discussions on developments within this decade of the nineties up to the year 2000. To some, the year 2000 may not seem a very long way off. However, I believe you will agree with me, looking at the tremendous achievements by our manufacturing sector within the last twenty years or so, that this decade will see many more exciting developments.en_US
