dc.description.abstractUrbanization is, as indicated by Simon Kuznets (1975), the Nobel Prize economist, the core of the processes of national development. Recently Chenery (1977) has shown that the process and pattern of urbanization of a country are intimately related to the country's level of development, population size, resource endowments and national development patterns. Although urbanization is one of the most important aspects of national development there has been a dearth of systematic studies on urbanization in the context of national development.
