Energy, economics and the environment, and their interrelation, are factors which are going to be of increasing importance to us. Energy is absolutely essential for economic growth. Our standard of living and well-being depend on adequate supplies of energy. Without energy, the economy would come to a standstill. However, all systems of energy production and use have environmental drawbacks. It would not be possible, in Malaysia, to select one or a small number of energy sources which have minimal environmental impact and obtain all our energy from them. Thus it is necessary to work out a compromise between energy consumers and environmentalists.en_US
