Overview of hardware and software in computer mapping

Abstract

Computer aided mapping systems have been getting popular world wide. Many public and private organizations of many countries have sophisticated machines which make it possible generate high quality digital maps or basic data for geographic information systems. However, in many cases, those pr to useful hardware have not been put into actual mapping project enough because of lack of steady concept in organizing the mapping system. This paper presents an introduction for typical computer mapping system including digital mapping, map digitizing, raster image scanning, data editing, data analyzing, plotting, printing, and utilizing of geographic information systems.
