Abstract: | In the Council of Ministers Meeting of East African Centre for Research Oh Oral Tradition and African National Languages (EACROTANAL) in Zanzibar September 17th - 19th, 1976 the First Vice President in Tanzania Mr. Al. Haj Aboud Jumbe made the following important remarks:- You are meeting here today to establish an institution designed to help our countries to carry out collectively projects and research aimed at rediscovering our rich cultural heritage. We all know the historical events that led to the suppression of our indigenous cultures, and traditional songs and dances. What I mean is culture in the sense of the way of life of a human group that include s all the constructive forms of behaviour which one uses and which others in one 's group have learned to expect and recognize o In a more general sense culture essentially refers to those ways of life that characterize man as distinct from beast and naturally involve s the use of language, the possession of heritage and the existence of social organizations that are particularly human. |
