dc.description.abstractNurul Hikmah School's curriculum locally implements Environmental Education by inviting all of the school's stakeholders to confront climate change by managing the school's daily wastes. Nurul Hikmah School, Kampung Sawah, Pondok Melati, Bekasi was established by the Dakwah Ummahatul Muslimat Pondok Gede Bekasi Foundation in 2003, and is devoted towards housing orphans and children from lower economic classes. "The schools has begun separating its wastes since October 2011. The objective of the programme is to empower schools to manage its wastes in order to act and reduce global warming. The activities within the programme is conducted with the close cooperation of YARSI University's Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Public Health. Their activities include counseling students on global warming as well as waste management and hands-on composting in schools. Counselling is done using slide presentations for waste management and film screenings that depict global warming. The effectiveness of the counseling method is measured through conducting a study both before and after screenings. Success in terms of waste management is also evaluated every week for 8 weeks. Interviews are also conducted with school teachers to evaluate obstacles and challenges in implementing the programme to the students.en_US
