During the mid-1980' s the practice of "gray marketing" or "parallel importing" has become widespread in the United States and elsewhere, and has become the subject of frequent reports in the popular business press and in the legal literature. At the same time, Marketing academicians have been relatively silent on the subject. Through an intensive review of the legal literature the author attempts to fill part of the void in the academic Marketing literature by assessing the legal environment of gray marketing in four Pacific Basin countries; the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.en_US
