Abstract: Azhar Food Industries which is a small scale factory producing potato crisps and chips in Batu Pahat have had problems in disposing used cooking oil. The University team designed a small biodiesel plant to convert the used cooking oil to a biodiesel of EN14112 standard. This biodiesel will be used by the factory to operate several pumps and heaters in the plant. This project has benefitted the factory and has also enabled it to save cost in disposing waste cooking oil and fuel. The environment is also protected due to the reduced waste being disposed. The plant operators are trained to operate the plant thus introducing new skills and technology is introduced. This a good example of University Industry engagement and should be encouraged.
