This paper comes out of my study on young Malay women's views on marriage and family. The ideas of marriage and family life acquired by young Malay women are not just drawn from their own family, but also through their experiences of education and work, their exposure to the media as well as the influence of religion and government. In this paper I will focus on the influences of work and education on young women's views of marriage and motherhood. This paper seeks to understand how the broader socic!I changes relating to work and education have influenced these young women's attitudes towards marriage and family life.en_US
