Description: A study was conducted on the properties of two-neutron halo nuclei (11Li, 14Be and 17B) near the neutron drip-line using the microscopic cluster model. These light nuclei provide a good test of the three-body theory which showed an extended neutron system similar to a halo in a Borromean picture, loosely bound with abnormally large radii. These nuclei have provided great challenges to many theories in the study of nuclear structure. Basically these nuclei consist of a core with two valence neutrons and treated in this study as having a deformed core consisting of N=2Z (where N is number of neutrons and Z is number of protons) which are not closed shell. The deformations (quadrupole moments) have an effect on the properties of the three-body system. In the study Jacobi coordinates were used to avoid the spurious motion of the centre of mass. The binding energy and root-mean-square (r.m.s.) matter radii for the two-neutron halo nuclei (11Li, 14Be and 17B) were calculated with the deformation of the cores of (9Li, 12Be and 15B) applied by the microscopic cluster model. The Wood-Saxon potential and spin-orbit interaction were used in the three-body calculations. Normalization performed along with the experimental data of 9Li, 12Be and 15B have also been used and the final results were compared with the experimental data for the nuclei studied. The calculations were performed using the computer code written in MATLAB. In general, the results of the binding energy and root-mean-square (r.m.s.) matter radii for 11Li, 14Be and 17B were found to be slightly bigger than experimental data because of fitting especially central potential depth parameters. However, the results obtained confirmed that the extended neutron system similar to a halo with abnormally large radii, loosely bound and exhibiting a Borromean system were found for all these nuclei (11Li, 14Be and 17B),Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not availble
