Description: Cerebral palsy (CP) imposes huge burden to the families psychologically, emotionally, financially and socially. CP in Iraq is one of the main issues among childhood problems. This study aimed to predict the risk factors of CP among Iraqi children whose mothers were exposed to war. A case- control study of children was conducted in Baghdad Iraq. Cases and controls were recruited from the Central Hospital of Children of Baghdad. Self-administered questionnaires were administered to CP child's mothers and their medical records were retrieved. A hundred cases and 200 controls were recruited. The response rate was 89%. Analysis using multivariate logistic regression showed 9 variables were significantly associated with CP: post traumatic war stress (PTWS) (Adjusted OR 10.14, 95% CI 2.86-35.93), employed mother (Adjusted OR 7.62, 95% CI 3.19-18.20), second pregnancy (Adjusted OR 0.28, 95% CI 0.11 -0.70), chorioamnionitis (Adjusted OR 3.19, 95% CI 1.20-8.44), diabetes during pregnancy (Adjusted OR 6.16, 95% CI 1.16- 32.72), female child (Adjusted OR 0.12, 95% CI 0.04- 0.40), asphyxia (Adjusted OR 10.97 95% CI 3.49- 34.53), hypoglycemia (Adjusted OR 67.12, 95% CI 9.24- 487.56) and hypocalcaemia (Adjusted OR 27.15, 95% CI 1.56- 473.23). In conclusion, PTWS, employed mother, chorioamnionitis, diabetes during pregnancy, neonatal asphyxia, hypoglycemia and hypocalcaemia were the major risk factors for cerebral palsy In Iraq. The provision of essential obstetric and neonatal care services in Iraq need to be strengthen in prevention and management of potential risk mother for CP. Early recognition of CP risk needs to be emphasis among the healthcare workers.,Ph.D
