Description: The aim of this study is to develop a phraseological profile of journal articles in the field of International Business Management (IBM) for the course of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). There are differing views with regard to the approaches to developing EAP course and this issue is highly debatable in the field. Besides, the phenomenon of variation within the phraseological sequences has not received considerable attention in the iterature. This study aims at filling in this research gap by looking at both the continuous and discontinuous phraseological sequences. The research questions in this study are concerned with the analyses of lexical bundles and lexical frames. The software programs Collocate, Antconc and kfNgram are used in this study for research data extraction and analysis purposes. The findings of this study indicate that 3-word lexical bundles and the structure "noun phrase + of-phrase fragment" are most widely used by expert writers in IBM. With regard to the functional categories, ferential expressions are the most frequent lexical bundles, followed by stance expressions and discourse organisers. 3-word lexical frames are found to be dominant in IBM. There are more fixed lexical frames in the category of three-word lexical frame. The category of four-word lexical frame contains more highly predictable lexical frames than the category of three-word lexical frames. The structure "function word frame" is the most common frame structure in IBM. Also, the variable slots are mostly filled up by content words. This study contributes to the development of EAP course as the lexical bundles and lexical frames investigated could be used to develop teaching materials in the course. This study also has implication on the understanding of phraseology in which phraseology can in fact be variable. This contributes to the understanding of actual phraseological tendency in academic writing.,Ph.D.
