Description: | Geography education is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary in scope and nature. It fits into many areas of subject in the field of social sciences, pure sciences and arts. However, this assertion does not give geography a place in the school curriculum as geography teachers still grapple to teach in abstract. This research had investigated students' perception of geography education and teachers' efficacy in selected secondary schools in Hulu Langat Selangor. Observation, interview with motivational talks and questionnaire were administered on the students to gain their understanding and attitude towards geography. Participants were students in Form Four, Five and Six.. Results revealed that the students have little awareness of the prospect of geography. Their perception was very low when it comes to determine what benefits they can get if they pursue geography as a course in the university. It was also revealed that the teachers are encountering problems of teaching aids and materials. The Current education policy did affect the choice of students and did show inadequate teaching materials and activities for geography which has translated into constraints, thereby leading to loss of interest in participatory learning of geography as a subject among students. The research on geography as subject could promote innovation, technology and environmental sustainability. The research findings may be beneficial as a guideline to researchers, education curriculum planner, teachers, students and government agency in Malaysia in improving the teaching and learning processes of geography subject and discipline.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available |
