Description: Kajian ini membincangkan sejarah perkembangan Kulliyyah al-Banāt al-Islāmiyyah Universiti al-Azhar (KBIUA) dan sumbangan wanita lulusannya dalam pendidikan Islam di Malaysia. Objektif pertama tesis ini ialah mengkaji sejarah perkembangan KBIUA sebagai institusi terawal yang memberikan pendidikan tinggi Islam kepada kaum wanita. Objektif kedua ialah meneliti penglibatan pelajar wanita Malaysia dalam pengajian Islam di KBIUA. Manakala objektif ketiga, menilai sumbangan wanita lulusan KBIUA dalam pendidikan Islam di peringkat menengah dan pendidikan tinggi di Malaysia. Objektif terakhir ialah menganalisis sumbangan mereka dalam pendidikan kemasyarakatan. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah sejarah dan analisis kualitatif. Data primer diperolehi melalui dokumen sejarah, temu bual terarah dan diperkukuhkan dengan data soal selidik. Data sekunder diperolehi daripada bahan bercetak di Malaysia dan Mesir. Seramai 85 responden terdiri daripada lulusan KBIUA dan al-Azhar, staf Jabatan Pendidikan Islam KPM dan Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri-negeri terlibat dalam sesi temu bual, manakala 172 lulusan KBIUA terlibat dalam soal selidik. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan penubuhan KBIUA telah mencetus satu jaringan pengajian tinggi Islam bagi kaum wanita di Malaysia dan di Mesir. Rihlah c ilmiyyah wanita Malaysia di KBIUA sepanjang 30 tahun merupakan satu sumbangan besar dalam sejarah pengajian tinggi Islam untuk kaum wanita Malaysia. Mereka bukan sahaja telah memecah tradisi berabad masyarakat Melayu yang menyekat perantauan ilmu kaum wanita, malah kehadiran wanita Malaysia pada peringkat awal menjadi pencetus idea pendidikan kaum wanita di al-Azhar. Rihlah c ilmiyyah di KBIUA telah mendedahkan mereka dengan pengalaman baharu tentang budaya dan pendidikan masyarakat Arab sehingga kemudian menjadi ikutan generasi selepas mereka. Para wanita lulusan KBIUA telah memajukan pendidikan Islam di Malaysia, menjadi pakar dalam bidang pengajian Islam, pendidik serta pendakwah dalam masyarakat. Majoriti responden didapati lebih menumpukan kerjaya dalam bidang pendidikan Islam di institusi masing-masing, manakala sebilangan kecil sahaja yang aktif dalam pendidikan kemasyarakatan selepas bersara.,This study discusses the historical development of the Faculty of al-Banat al-Islamiyyah, University of al-Azhar (KBIUA) and the contributions of its graduates in Malaysian Islamic education. The first objective of this thesis was to study the historical development of KBIUA as the earliest institution that provided Islamic higher education to women. The second objective was to review the participation of female students in Islamic studies at KBIUA. While the third objective is to evaluate contributions of KBIUA's female graduates in Islamic education at the levels of secondary and higher education in Malaysia. The last objective is to analyse their contributions on the community education. The study utilised historical and qualitative methods. Primary data were obtained through historical documents, directed interview and strengthened with questionnaire data. Secondary data were gathered from printed materials in Malaysia and Egypt. A total of 85 respondents, comprising of graduates from KBIUA and al-Azhar University, staff from the Islamic Education Division, MOHE and Department of Religious Affairs of the states involved in the interview sessions. 172 graduates from KBIUA were involved in the questionnaire survey. The findings indicated that the establishment of the KBIUA had triggerred a network of Islamic higher education for women in Malaysia and Egypt. Rihlah c ilmiyyah of Malaysian women at KBIUA had contributed greatly to Islamic higher education for Malaysian women in its 30 year history. They not only managed to break the tradition, within the Malay society, in preventing women from seeking knowledge, the presence of Malaysian women in the early stages, could be well considered as a catalyst for ideas for women education in alAzhar University. Rihlah c ilmiyyah at KBIUA has exposed them to new experience about the culture and education of the Arab community which was followed by the generations after them. The graduates of KBIUA helped to develop Islamic education in Malaysia, became specialists in the field of Islamic studies, educators and preachers in the community. The majority of respondents were found to be more focused on a career in Islamic education, while only a small number, though retired were still active in the education of the community.,Ph.D
