Description:	This study aimed to design and develop an English Communication Skills mobile module for healthcare professionals as a continuing professional development (CPD) module. The development of the module was to provide a new approach to conducting CPDs using problem-based learning (PBL) and intended to aid healthcare professionals who are participants in an English communication skills course to learn collaboratively. The module developed to be used on mobile devices as part of the intended CPD was evaluated for its usability in terms of its content, device, learner and social aspect as well as evaluated for its user's acceptance. This study utilised the Design and Development Research approach to develop the module. Based on the approach, the research was conducted in three phases; the needs analysis phase, the design and development phase and finally the implementation and evaluation phase. In the first phase, the needs of the learners were identified through a survey questionnaire on 38 healthcare professionals to identify the suitable content, preferred learning environment and devices used for learning. A focus group discussion with five senior healthcare professionals was also done to enrich the findings in the survey. Findings in the needs analysis phase were used as a guide to develop the module in the next phase. In the design and development phase, the module was designed based on the learning needs identified and the contents that was suggested were developed, and problem-based learning approaches were incorporated. The module prototype developed in this phase was evaluated by six experts from the field of mobile learning, problem-based learning and healthcare communication content. One-to-one learner evaluation was also conducted to obtain feedback from the user's perspective. Recommendations from both evaluations were used to improve the module before it is evaluated in the final phase. The final evaluation phase required 116 healthcare professionals representing different healthcare professions in four different private hospitals to evaluate the module's usability and user acceptance in a survey questionnaire. Then, five participants and three instructors were selected to be interviewed on the usability of mobi-CARE. Findings of the entire study showed a high user acceptance level and usability from the learners and interest to learn in a collaborative learning environment. This study contributes to a new approach to learning for healthcare professionals who are unable to attend traditional classroom courses. At the same time, course designers and trainers benefit from having a guideline on how to design courses based on learner's needs and how to determine the level of usability and user acceptance of a course. A usability and user acceptance evaluation would be able to determine user's adoption of a new technology-based learning approach using mobile devices and would benefit organisations when considering the modes of training most useful for their employees.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
