Description: Body image and self-esteem are fundamental components in psychological health and is affect with dynamics of physical exercise. This study explore the effects of selected aerobic exercise programs on body image and self-esteem and attempts to determine the principle of most effective aerobic exercise program in boosting body image perception and self-esteem. In order to achieve this desired outcome, experimental design was employ. The sample consisted of 120 of undergraduate female students of Basra University, Iraq. Two instruments were used to measure the two dependent variables body image perception using MBSRQ scale, and self-esteem using Self-Esteem Scale. Data was analyzed using inferential statistics. Data analysis based on t-test shows significant difference between pretest and posttest in all modalities of aerobic exercise programs in body image perception and self-esteem. An analysis of variance (3 way-ANOVA) reveals that there is a significant difference between the different modalities of aerobic exercise programs in body image perception in all body image subscales (p < 0.05) and self-esteem (f=81.299, p < 0.05). L.S.D. shows that combination of step/dance aerobics and weight training program is the most effective program on body image and self-esteem. Results of this study contribute to developing the role of aerobic exercise in improving body image perception and self-esteem.
