Description: Al-Quran describes many foods in various surāhs. Among those foods are cereals, meats, fruits, drinks and vegetables. These foods contain chemical compounds known as antioxidant. Scientifically, antioxidants are compounds that can scavenge free radicals from the human body. However, these antioxidants are described in two main contexts which are makkiyyah and madaniyyah that are entirely different in many aspects such as the topics and issues, physical environment and nature of the society. In these two contexts, the Quran uses specific uslūb to describe the antioxidants. The objective of this research is to analyze the pattern of the antioxidants in the makkiyyah and madaniyyah context, the chronological order of the surāhs on antioxidants and its significance, as well as to analyze the Quranic uslūb of the antioxidants and their significance and relevancy of antioxidants intake in both contexts. This research is qualitative research with the approach of content and historical analysis. Data were collected through content and document analysis, analyzed thematically using descriptive and analytical methods. The results demonstrate that al-Quran uses uslūb such as al-khās, al-ta'rīf and al-taqdīm in figs because it is the best functional fruit, enriched with nutrition and various goodness, as well as having distinctive characteristic compared to other fruits. Besides, the antioxidant pattern portrays that the majority of antioxidants are described in the makkiyyah context compared to the madaniyyah context. This is due to the difference in dietary habits between the Makkan and Madinan society. Fresh fruits are described in the makkiyyah context because Makkan people are nourished with fruits that originate from various locations due to the strategic location of Makkah and it is a blessed land. The intake of fresh fruits in Makkan society is very crucial because of the hectic lifestyle in a metropolitan city, arid and dry weather and the scarcity of water. Most of the antioxidants are described in the makkiyyah context during the last years of the Makkan period, before Prophet Muhammad's migration to Madinah. After facing hardships and challenges from the musyrikūn of Makkah, Allah has destined Madinah as the place of migration where it is agricultural land for dates and other vegetation. The dietary habits of the Madinan society are different because they maximize the use of their agricultural products such as dates and vegetables in their daily diet. The implication of this study suggests to the global society to emulate the dietary habits of Makkan and Madinan society during the Prophet's time. This is because the makkiyyah context shows a variation of antioxidants and both contexts have a complete (al-syumūl) and balanced (al-tawāzun) diet that is in accordance with the situation, location, time and individual needs.,Ph.D.
