Description: | This research aims to explore the learning strategies of excellent students and nonexcellent students in the first year of secondary school in Libya. The focus of this research is on the learning strategies inside, outside the classroom, and preparation for exams. Following the objectives of the study, eight students were chosen as participants, divided into two groups; four excellent students and four non- excellent students. This selection is based on their current results and recommendations from their teachers. The study has used the qualitative method for data collection through a case study system, using interviews, non-participant observations, and daily diary. Data was analysed to identify the acquired key themes, and to support the observations of the researcher through the conduct of the study, as well as the information collected from the daily diary. The results showed that excellent students and non- excellent students have adopted strategies were almost the same; however, they used different techniques during the class, the most important included taking notes, mind concentration, listening, and discussion. The results also showed that excellent students and non- excellent students' participants used different learning strategies outside the classroom. The most important strategies used by excellent students and non- excellent students participants included review, setting timetable for review, self-study, and relate new information to previous learning experience. The results also showed that excellent students and non- excellent students' participants have followed different learning strategies in preparation for the exam. The most important strategies used by excellent students and non- excellent students participants in preparation for the exam, such as; setting a review timetable for the exam, summarize lessons, review observations and feedback. The most important recommendation, based on the findings of the research suggests a model of learning strategies for excellent students in the classroom, outside the classroom and preparation for exams,Certification of Masters/Doctorial Thesis' is not available,Ph.D |
