Description: The history of Islam in West Africa dates back to the fifth year of the Prophet's mission. However, its spread to sub-Saharan African countries such as Nigeria was facilitated by the emergence of various Islamic movements and reforms spearheaded by different scholars. Among such Islamic movements is the Tijaniyya order founded in 1784 by Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani. Following his death in 1815, the movement was led by his disciple Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse etc. Under Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse, the Tijaniyya order achieved global popularity and acceptability. The achievement of this success has been attributed to the outstanding qualities of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse who is now considered as the symbol of the movement. Against this background, this study was conducted with the aim assess the theological and ethical thoughts of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse. To do that, the study has three objectives: Firstly, to introduce the life of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse and his contributions, secondly, to assess his teaching on Islamic theology and thirdly, to analyse his teaching on ethics. Based on various literatures reviewed, this study was conducted using a qualitative research design approach based on content analysis on several works of Ibrahim Niasse such as Ruh al-Adab (The Spirit of good moral), Raf'a al-Mu'allim (The raising of the teacher), Kash al-Ilbas (The removal of confusion) among others. The study also used in-depth interview methods which a total of six respondents were selected for data collection purposes. The data collected were analysed using historical analyses, inductive and deductive methods. The findings of the research are numerous and important. Ibrahim Niasse has played a major role in imparting the knowledge of Islam especially in theology and ethics through his works. His method of writing and elaborating the Islamic teaching on theology and ethics was unique based on the methodology of Ash`arite school and using simple language and examples that were easily understood by laymen. Hence, this study reveals the important of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse, who has been highly regarded by his followers and enjoying tremendous respect among other Islamic scholars in West African sub-Saharan.
