Description: Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) is the Fourth-Generation wireless communication technology that provides scalable coverage, excellent throughput and ubiquitous connectivity. Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a reliable LTE-A message oriented transport layer protocol that combines both Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to overcome increasing signaling at high traffic loads. However, the congestion control mechanism of conventional SCTP (STD-SCTP) cannot fully support the huge bandwidth demands due to lack of integration between slow-start and congestion avoidance phases, thus producing low efficiency in term of throughput, delay, queue size and packets lost. Moreover, the congestion window management and parameter selection is not optimal. The main objective of the research is to propose new, efficient slow-start technique and implement congestion avoidance mechanism for LTE-A, using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) algorithms. The proposed mechanism called Enhancement SCTP (ENH-SCTP) been implement, first by formulating a new adaptive window (n-cwnd) that minimize the duration to accomplish the threshold for phase transition by integrating new parameter based on MCDM capabilities. MCDM metrics include congestion window (cwnd), throughput, queue size and packet loss with various ranks and weightage setting. Secondly, the optimal setting is selected according to highest score of MCDM metrics using the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) against Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Weighted Product Method (WPM), Hierarchical Adaptive Weighting (HAW) and Multiplicative Exponential Weighting (MEW) methods. The proposed mechanism is validated using simulation on Network simulator (NS2) platform and their performance being evaluated in term of MCDM metrics, delay, and packet send/receive for up to hundred variants. From the experimentation, it is found out that the maximum tangible selection is from 1 to 9. Simulation results also shown that the throughput, packet loss, cwnd, and queue size enhanced by 8.5%, 16%, 75%, and 93% respectively as compared to conventional SCTP variants. In addition, the jitter improved by decreased 64%, delay decreased by 14.5% and the packet send/receive increased by 20%. All MCDM techniques produce highest score when n-selection is equal to four. Finally, it can be concluded that the proposed SCTP is substantially efficient for wide bandwidth networks such as LTE-A.,Ph.D.
